Sinead O’Carroll

MBACP, BA (Hons), LRAM, ARAM

I am Sinead O’Carroll, a registered BACP (British Association for Counselling Practitioners) therapist, based in the UK.

I work as an integrative therapist, specialising in working with psychological trauma and its symptoms including anxiety, stress, dissociation and relationship issues.  I use a very holistic, flexible and individualised approach to each of my clients, combining different aspects of a variety of therapeutic approaches such as Person-Centred, CBT, Gestalt, Psychodynamic, Polyvagal Theory and Trauma Informed Practice. I see you as an individual, there is no-one else like you and my approach reflects this.

Having worked extensively in the creative arts, as a performing musician, an Associate Director at a leading international artist management agency, founding an international music competition for young people and running my own artist and project management company, I am passionate about using my experience within this field to help people within and outside the creative community with issues that they may find themselves dealing with on a day to day basis.

I am a warm, honest, open-minded and non-judgemental professional who places a strong value in diversity and difference. I believe that therapy marks the beginning of your journey towards understanding yourself and your emotions, your relationships with others and your relationship with the outside world better. This journey is one of acceptance, empowerment and change. It is a journey towards you finding your sense of self, finding your own answers and facilitating choice so you can begin to navigate life with more choice and less anxiety and stress.

Our relationship would be built on respect, trust and congruence.  It would be a collaborative relationship.  This means we would work together to gain an understanding of your experience, listen to and explore the thoughts and feelings that come up for you.  By doing so, you would develop a deep level of curiosity and self-awareness, allowing for powerful change in your life.

I have extensive experience working with; trauma, relationships, anxiety, performance anxiety, adverse childhood events, abuse, loss, identity issues, self-esteem, family relationships, judgement, criticism, self-confidence, judgement, fear, fame, isolation, mistrust.

CREATIVE ARTS
Having worked in the creative arts with adults and young people for many years, I have a deep understanding of the issues that present themselves to those who work in this field. These include but are not limited to performance, audition and competition anxiety, stress, criticism, judgement, fame, creative and personal identity, employment insecurity, depression, isolation, poor job security, demanding lifestyle and relationship issues.

As a musician and artist manager, I have had first-hand experience of the issues that face clients who work in the creative arts, guiding them through these difficulties towards more fulfilling lives. I have worked as a therapist with young students at the British and Irish Institute for Modern Music in London. As a founder of a major international music competition, I have worked extensively with young musicians between the ages of 16 and 26.
